American Legion Baseball

Began in 1925 and held its first national tournament the following year.
In 2011,Shelby, North Carolina became the permanent “Home” for American Legion Baseball World Series.
Over 604,000 viewers watched the 2019 American Legion World Series on ESPN-U, an American digital cable and satellite sports television channel that is owned by ESPN Inc.
American Legion Baseball strives to impart sportsmanship, citizenship, teamwork and physical fitness.
Qualities such as loyalty, respect for the rules and decisions rendered, fair play and courage are emphasized in the activity. The basic principle that underlies the success of this program is the self-evident truth that organized sports can help mold character.
The Baseball program depends upon the ability, the willingness and the enthusiasm of American Legion posts, Legionnaires, the Legion Family and other organizations to promote the activity.
Some ALB alumni have gone on to play the sport professionally such as Kris Bryant, Bryce Harper, Albert Pujols, Madison Bumgarner and Justin Verlander. More than 80 American Legion Baseball graduates have been inducted into the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame.
